Dates can be arranged at a convenient time to suit those interested.

HUSBANDRY COURSES

 

Providing the ideal training for any who are thinking of getting goats of their own, or even just an enthusiast who wishes to learn more, this half day course covers everything from handling, housing, feeding, medical care, foot trimming and everyday husbandry and welfare, with a theory session in the morning followed by a practical in the afternoon.

The course will run from 11am to approximately 3pm, with sandwiches and drinks provided, and cost £75.00 plus a further £25.00 for any additional guest. Select dates throughout the year.

We offer an afternoon course 1pm til 4pm with a break for tea and cake, We cover all aspects of considering buying a goat, purpose of the goat whether as a pet or for breeding. A hands on interactive experience ideal for potential new owners or even those who are just curious and would like to learn more.

The course covers, documentation, paddock and housing, feed, care and welfare, foot trimming, bedding, minor ailments, fencing and all aspects of everyday routine care.

The course is £75 for the first person with an additional £30 per person

On basic days we try to cover as many topics as possible and tailor them to the questions you ask on the day. Some of the things we discuss are, basic handling, legalities, drenching, worming, injecting, medicines, foot trimming, feeding , fields, fencing, buildings etc. Choosing and breeding meat goats, meat and marketing. With practical hands on sessions in as much of this as possible. You will need to bring things to have for lunch but we supply tea and coffee (as and when we remember and it fits in!)

A beginner's guide to keeping goats

 

During the day you will learn all about:

Choosing goats: what breed to buy, where to buy a goat, what age to buy a goat. Housing and feeding your goat: including fencing needs, bedding and feeding regime. Health: keeping your goats happy and healthy, looking out for common ailments and how to treat them. Breeding: planning how to expand your herd, how to look after the pregnant goat, kidding and rearing kids.

The day includes a delicious organic lunch made from all our own produce

Lunch is a great way to sample the produce from The Lint Mill and will feature our home reared meat, seasonal fruit and vegetables.
